THE SUNSET ROUTE IN CAVALLINO TREPORTI
LENGTH: 12.9 kilometres
SOIL: mixed
DIFFICULTY: medium
Starting from Punta Sabbioni and proceeding counter-clockwise along the cycle path, you ride along the entire western part of Cavallino Treporti, directly overlooking the lagoon: pedal after pedal, you can enjoy a unique view of the sea and glimpse the bright colours of the island of Burano on the horizon, the important MOSE engineering work, the ancient island of Torcello and the island of Sant’Erasmo, also known as the ‘vegetable garden of Venice’.
Along the Via del Tramonto you will also come across the imposing Forte Treporti, better known as Forte Vecchio, built by the Austrians between 1845 and 1851 on the remains of a pre-existing French fort.
Continuing along the road, we reach the Lungomare Dante Alighieri cycle path that leads to the Punta Sabbioni lighthouse, with its distinctive pagoda shape painted in black and white chequered patterns.
From the lighthouse we turn back for a few dozen metres, to take Via Montello on the right, the forest road that skirts the lush pine forest of Cavallino Treporti.
At the crossroads with via Retrone, turn left onto via dei Forti. Continue along Via Retrone and once on Via Brenta, turn right, until you join the Ca’ Savio cycle path and arrive at the starting point near Via Pordelio.
